RickLauncher 2.4.5.2 — beta with lightweight updates
The launcher now updates in pieces — a few megabytes instead of 200. Smarter Steam start, clear mod installs, hints in crash reports. A beta for testers.
In short
- Launcher update — a few MB instead of 200; encyclopedia database — about 20 MB instead of 374
- Starts Steam by itself and says "Steam closed the game" instead of "crash"
- An archive with several mods — the launcher asks which ones to install and shows a summary
- New ready-made setups: Europe 1700 and The Old Realms
This is a beta! It is for enthusiasts and testers. Install it from the launcher menu: Launcher version → Beta. Once everything is polished, the changes go into a release.
What changed since release 2.4.2:
⚡️ Updates are dozens of times lighter
The launcher no longer downloads itself whole (only once more — on the next update). It takes only the changed parts and rebuilds the rest from installed files. A launcher update is a few megabytes instead of 200, a fresh mod-encyclopedia database about 20 MB instead of 374. Everything is signature-checked, and if something fails the launcher downloads the full update as before. The first such download comes with the next update after this beta; the encyclopedia database is already downloaded in pieces.
🚂 Game start and Steam
- Steam is off — the launcher starts it and waits for you to sign in. Before, a Steam game simply closed after a few seconds with no explanation.
- If Steam closes or signs you out mid-game, the launcher honestly says “Steam closed the game” rather than “crash”, and does not suspect your mods.
- Launching no longer fails when Steam is downloading cloud saves at that very second.
📦 Installing mods
- Several mods in an archive or folder — the launcher asks which ones to install, with a list and an “about the mod” button. No more “asked for one mod, forty got installed”.
- The install summary is a clear list: what is new, what was replaced (was → now), what was already there.
- A mod you turned off yourself is no longer pushed back on before every launch, nor re-enabled when a dependency for another mod is downloaded.
- A game expansion a mod needs (Birth and Death, War Sails) is enabled automatically.
- A patch without the full mod (for example, the TOR patch from ModDB) is recognised, and the launcher says plainly that the full version is needed — instead of a crash before the menu.
- Removed false “mod … is required but not enabled” messages for The Old Realms, translations, Lore-Hardcore, Battlefield Breaker and mods that “required themselves”.
- The “Mod not fully installed” window no longer appears for a mod that was updated to a new version.
🩺 Crash analysis
- The report shows exactly where in a method the game crashed and which mods patch that method.
- If the game was started through
Launcher.Native.exe, the report explains how to start it properly: many mods are untested on that runtime. - Harmless errors in TOR data are no longer presented as the cause of a crash.
🎨 Shaders and more
- Shader compilation for TOR again picks up everything it needs, including TOR_Core and enabled game expansions.
- The question about mods is asked before the build window, not on top of it.
- Printing a journal issue prints the whole issue, not just the cover.
- The item names in the profile “⋯” menu are back.
- Europe 1700 and The Old Realms setups are now bundled. The gallery shows setups for the game versions you have connected.
