RickLauncher 2.4.2 — a big reliability update
We checked the whole launcher and fixed everything we found: your mods and saves are safe, Cancel means cancel, downloads resume where they stopped.
In short
- A damaged profiles file, an antivirus or OneDrive no longer lead to deleted data
- Cancel stops installs, updates and translations instead of reporting an error
- A broken download resumes where it stopped; a slow Nexus no longer stalls a setup
- Red only for what really stops the game; Esc and Enter work in every window
A big reliability update: we checked the whole launcher and fixed everything we found.
🛡 Your mods and saves are safe
- If the profiles file is damaged or briefly locked by an antivirus or OneDrive, the launcher no longer deletes anything.
- Rolling back to a previous launcher version does not touch profiles created later.
- “Replace setup” no longer wipes the files of the new install.
- Restoring from a backup changes data only after full extraction, and cancelling spoils nothing.
- A damaged settings file no longer wipes your Nexus key and Steam sign-in.
🔁 Launching
- Europe 1700 and other mods no longer get stuck in a “Mod not fully installed” loop after a game update.
- If Windows has lost the Documents folder, the launcher tells you how to get it back instead of failing with an obscure error.
⏹️ Cancel means cancel
- Pressed Cancel during an install, update or translation — the launcher stops and does not report an error.
- Cancelling one mod stops the whole list.
⬇️ Downloads and setups
- A broken download resumes where it stopped.
- A server that goes silent no longer hangs the install.
- A slow Nexus no longer stops the install of a whole setup.
- An interrupted reinstall of a setup no longer drops mods from the profile.
🎯 Mods and updates
- A link to a specific GitHub release of a mod installs exactly that release.
- The Nexus file you chose is no longer swapped for the main one.
- Mods for early game versions (e1.x) are no longer blocked on 1.2 and 1.4.
- Declining an update no longer hides all of the mod’s later updates.
🧱 Shaders
- A profile with its own shader cache gets the right buttons and questions again.
- A build that failed to start names the reason instead of saying “built”.
- Error windows of other programs no longer stop the build.
🩺 Crash analysis
- More accurate: an old crash folder no longer confuses a fresh report.
- TOR-only advice is no longer given when TOR is disabled.
✨ Convenience
- The main button is now on the left in every window.
- Only what really prevents the game from starting is red; warnings became yellow.
- Esc closes windows, Enter confirms.
- Startup questions are asked one at a time.
- Windows no longer freeze: heavy work runs in the background.
- The setup editor asks “save?” before closing a project.
- If Steam is unavailable, the launcher does not open the sign-in window but still checks Workshop updates.
